Each species of hardwood has its own distinct characteristics.  Certain species provide an amazing range of light and dark wood grain in every plank, while others bring a more solid color and conservative texture.  You may have a color in mind to match an existing style in a room, and some species can hold a certain color finish better than others.  Take a look at the earth tones our oak floors can give, or the deep, rich, reds of mahogany.

Consider the placement and function of your wood floor when browsing.  What’s the humidity like where it will be installed?  Is it high traffic or low traffic?  Each wood species has different available manufacture types such as engineered, hand scraped, or solid hardwood flooring, and each category has its own strengths.
